CADSTAR 6 - New Features

Zuken has announced a major upgrade to its CADSTAR front-to-back PCB design solution. For the first time, the toolset is delivered with an innovative Constraints Manager to reduce design iterations and significantly improve productivity in high-speed designs. Other major improvements include enhanced 45-degree routing, mixed width route constraints, enhanced interactive placement, faster drawing tools and more effective library management.

New Features

What's it called? What does it do? Why do I need it?
Activ-45 Routes connections using DRC limits automatically in 45 Degree mode auto completing when a pin is reached Increases the speed of manual routing, increasing productivity.
Constraint Manager Allows all net constraints and final results to be viewed in spreadsheet form. Allows the user to see immediately if design limitations have been achieved saves time, Right first time design saves time.
Component push-aside and springback Enables components to be pushed aside automatically in dense designs. Saves time by reducing the need to alter placements.
Trim and merge shapes Trims and / or merges shapes quickly. Allows creation of unusual board outlines.
ODB++ output Outputs full design information in industry-standard format. Industry-standard format enable increased accuracy in the output.
Lined grids Draws lined grids not dots. Assists with visual alignment.
Multiple width route codes Allows user to change track width just while adhering to pre-defined limit. Quick, efficient track width changes for as many different widths as required.
Uneditable attributes Allows specified attributes to be set so only specified users may edit them. Stops the problem of the BOM being different from the design.
Full part reload Reloads all / specified parts from one dialog in a spread sheet style format. All parts displayed in one dialog and selection of parts for reload is simplified, therefore, the design always matches the library.
Full part Replace Replaces all / specified parts from one dialog in a spread sheet style format. All parts displayed in one dialog and selection of parts for replace is simplified. Implementation of ECOs is easier.
Part links Allows links to PDF documents and special assembly requirements to be associated to a part. Easy to use links.
Resize handles Provides graphical handles to use to modify a shape. Quick method of resizing a shape without redrawing it.
User-defined Scaling Provides a precise method of resizing / scaling a shape. Enables greater control for resizing and scaling.
Datasheet Publisher Creates an HTML document of the details of any / all parts in a library. For online publication of any / all parts on an intranet / internet site for rapid identification of available parts in your existing library. Only need a web browser to view these files.
Partial route gate and pin swap Where allowed, will swap connections between pins and gates on partially routed connections. Save time by not having to unroute portions of the design.
Definable Auth Level Allows user in a network environment to reqeust a certain level of authorization upon opening the router. Provides greater user flexibility
Design Lowlight PRED Sets all nets not selected to a different color. Allows for quick identification of route path on dense designs.
Minimum force indicator Highlights the best position for a component based on the connection density to adjoining components. Allows for quick identification of best placement locations.
Layer build editor Allows for the layer build to be modified in the route editor. If some limitations are not achievable the layer build can be modified to check if changes will give a better result.
Footprinting of components enhanced Creates a breakout pattern for components with dense pin configurations. Very fast method of getting connections from the component pads to a routable position.
